Chanced upon a lettera 32 at a very low price, not all that dirty, nothing some contact cleaner and Pbblaster wont fix. The carriage return mechanism doesnt work, need to figure that one out. But other than that, not that bad.But I do observe some quirks compared to my lettera 32 made in barcelona. 1st of all, no spool nut, weird. Is this normal?

It seems to be locked by gravity. There is no insert of any kind and the spools seem to be pushed by a metal protrusion. Lots of plastic, the base plate, is plastic, the carriage lever is plastic, the carriage return mechanism has a plastic part which is metal in my lettera 32.Anyone with experience with a made in mexico olivetti?. I just took delivery of a (surprise) Mexican Lettera 32 from eBay. (Surprise because the listing said Spain, but I too got it for a relative steal so I guess I can’t complain too much.) Oddly enough, the carriage return on mine is also broken.
The linkage between the bottom of the carriage return lever and the ratchet on the left side of the platen was snapped. Easy enough to make a replacement, but not so easy to install. Can also confirm the plethora of plastic pieces that are typically metal on the Italian and Spanish models. Bottom plate, carriage ends, ribbon spool posts, etc., but the carriage return lever on mine is metal. That being said, the nubbin that seats and holds it in place when deployed has been worn away so it drops and hits the cover.

It is metal in the lettera from spain and plastic on the mexican one. That is such a weird design choice.
That piece gets lots of friction. Its the whitish plastic bit u see in the pic(bottom left).

I'm going to try penetrant on that piece, its not moving freely.Does ur spool holder without a locking mechanism? (like a spool nut)I dont have the machine here with me now. But I'll post it another day.
